Hey.... mpilchfamily wasn't too happy when I told him. He told me to call him in a week to let him know my PSU went up in smoke

Also note, my Quad and RAM are not overclock.

    Where have you been?

I'm on an Antec 480 WATT PSU! I need it to last me until my RMA comes back! Unless you don't mind me losing 2K in PPD for folding

As soon as my PSU comes back, I'll go back to overclocking the Quad!

You're talking to the guy who ran an 8800GTX on a Shuttle 400w PSU for a few weeks with no issues. Then again, Shuttle's PSUs are actually among the really good ones. Mpilch doesn't scare me!

    Hello,
Your tutorial is very nice, but I'm seeing that RivaTuner do not support Catalyst 8.3 yet. Do you have an idea to regulate the fan in another way ?
    Thanks you

I believe, (I could be wrong), but Rivatuner does in fact work on Catalyst 8.3. It does give a warning that it hasn't been tested, but it does work, at least on my 3870.

Can somebody check to verify this?

Rivatuner won't detect Catalyst 8.3, but that shouldn't stop you from being able to adjust the fan speeds as well as the clock speeds on the card. I'll verify this tonight if I can.

Seems like this is a great forum for newbie spirits like me (O/Cers )
So I downloaded RT v2.08 and it do not detect Catalyst 8.3, but without telling me with any message while lunching it.
But resolved my fan problem, by installing SmartDoctor (cause I got an Asus Graphic card)
I saw only yesterday night that I could manage the fan with this software. So, my O/C is begining

PS : Sorry for my bad english ^^

FYI: Rivatuner 2.06 will still work. It just won't detect the Catalyst. Tested last night. I will try Rivatuner 2.08 and test it today if I get a chance.

It is a good place for those getting into overclocking. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Also, don't worry about the bad english. There are lots of people here who use english as a second language. I could name 4 or 5 active members of the forum right now.

Eurasianman I'm seeing that you get your 3870x2 to 901/999MHz but with RT, are you sure that all of your 2 cores and mem is beeing O/C ? I tried it but I saw on Everest that only one of the core is O/C and not the other, it's doing the same thing with Overdrive, so I found a guy who give me a personal modified AMD GPU ClockTool dll to permit to O/C all of the cores.
You can download it here : RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

I also want to know what is the constructor of your card because I'm getting black sreen while putting more than 990MHz to the memory.
    E6850 @ 3.4GHz, Asus HD 3870x2 @ 891/990MHz, 2x2Go OCZ Reaper Edition CAS4, Asus P5E, WD Raptor 74Go + WD 500Go, Cooler Master Real Power 1kW, Cooler Master Cosmos 1000.

It's a Sapphire card. And I'm pretty sure it overclocks both cores and memory synchronously. AFAIK, GPU-Z and Everest still don't read things correctly from the card.

Hi Eurasianman, i came across your guide to overclocking the 3870X2 n i am happy i did i successfully overclocked the card to wat u recommend, 899/999mhz n the card is running smoothly n performing awesomely. i took a snapshot of rivatuner n cpu-z to show the settings of my pc. atitool isnt working rite now, i dont know why, so i just use the 3dmark 06 to load the gpu.

plus i ran 3dmark 06 n here's the score. u can see my pc specs in my signature.

I cant wait for u to write about overclocking both cores, since i think it could improve the cards performance. Hope u can write about it soon

p.s. errr.....i dont know why my sigs not showing....anyone know why?
