Based on my previous experience of a couple of 350 watt Antec power supplies blowing up, when this sucker goes, it should be able to do a ton of damage.

At least it does it for a reasonable price...

I've seen a 300W PSU go up in flames, smoke and a shower of spars, a 450W, 500W, 610W, 750W and 800W all go bamf. I wonder what a 1kW explosion looks like...

That said.... soo tempting...

Have a look at some reviews. Xbit did a big review a while back comparing several of the 1KW units. The Antec ranked among the worse. The best was Thermaltake's 1200W PSU. They have both a Modular and standard version of the PSU. Here is the standard unit.
Newegg.com - Thermaltake Toughpower W0156RU ATX12V / EPS12V 1200W Power Supply 100 - 240 V CE, CB, TUV, FCC, UL, CUL, and BSMI certified - Retail

Here is the review.
X-bit labs - Ten Kilowatts of Power: 1000W+ PSU Roundup

EDIT: Correction they say that Coolermasters 1KW Real Power Pro is the best among them. That one was reviewed in a an earlier article.

One of the mags showed a 2KW unit that had a big external brick. I'd like to have one of those for when I'm in my turbo wasteful mood. I have a pair of huge mono audio amps that are like that - unplug the fridge, turn everything in the house off, turn one on, wait for the house A/C to re-equilibrate, turn the other on while hoping the breaker doesn't blow. Then sit back and enjoy 2700 watts of unbridled musical power. I need a PC that's equally wasteful.

Now that is allot of power. You could run several system off that. I think i've read somewhere that its pretty bad when it comes to efficiency. But when your talking that much power who really cares right?

Meh, that's just the stinkin 3.3V rail playing up. I'm sure the VRM for RAM on modern mobo can clear that up easily before feeding to RAM.
12V looks excellent and that's all it matters.

[EDITED]That's whatI call one focking expensive junk. I never like any company that likes to sit on old reputation and charge excessively.

Whats funny is CPU magazine had an add for the unit in there January issue. It was a mistake since the add wasn't suppose to run till next month.

I've got an active imagination, but it's hard to imagine a single CPU rig needing 2KW. It's a nice looking unit but I haven't bothered to check the price. I won't be buying one anytime soon.

That's what I use. I was kind of worried given CM's usual PSUs but I got it for a great price with the Stacker 830 case and saw that it typically got good reviews. That PSU has been perfect so far (7 months and counting) supporting an OC'd quad at 100% load and my power hungry graphics 24/7 with never a problem.
