Report: PS3 power-hungrier than five fridges

The PlayStation 3: Blu-ray player, next-gen game machine, multimedia hub--and power guzzler. According to a report by the Australian Consumers' Association's Choice publication, leaving your PS3 on when you're not gaming can cost you A$250 ($239) a year in electricity bills.

If you turn it off from 10am-7pm then that will be more like $50/year. Many (most?) Aussie electrical companies now charge differently based on the time of the day.

If I remember correctly, the Xbox 360 used approx 240 or 260 watts at full load. I don't know what it uses at idle. Still more than a PC, which is sad.

I stand corrected.. the 360 uses only slightly more than the PS3. Both below 200w.

I don't know how accurate this site is but it's the best I found in a few minutes.

As do power companies in the UK.
If you request it you can get a dual rate meter. At 2-6am.. It gets stupidly cheap for electricity.

We got 3 different rates for normal appliances, and two more for hot water.

Both PS3 and 360 are bad products.
One fails from over heating and the other costs too much.

You should make your statements clearer To clarify for those who are not aware, XBOX 360 overheats (I'm on my 2 XBOX 360. I had a 20 GB launch unit that died 4 months later. Than I sold the 20 GB M$ sent me and got a Elite. That died less than a year later. Now my current one is acting up). My Playstation 3 costs me $100 more than my XBOX 360 and it's the 60 GB Playstation 3 with full backwards compatibility and has been stressed more than my XBOX 360 and shows no sign of wear

Meh. I think I play my PSP more than my Wii (and yes, I have Wii Fit and it's not all that it's hyped up to be in case anyone was wondering).

Eura, I just play L4D on the PC... and maybe Force Unleashed sometimes...
Also the 65nm version (current one is 90nm) of the Xbox's chipset and CPU should make it overheat less.

Yeah they're taking their sweet freaking time with the 65nm GPU. I'll get one when they come out but until then I'll continue to be a bum and use my roommates

Bingo, and the PS3 is now only $400, but that's still too damn expensive. Bottom line, if you want Blu Ray, you buy a PS3, otherwise, you buy a 360. Or, if you have to play TV wars with other people in the house, you build a PC instead. (Sorry, venting)
