Ah yes, you, me, and every taxpayer in the country. And I'd sure like to know how all those calls were made just prior to the BofA announcement. I was thinking a bit earlier today about how some of the robber barons of the 1920's manipulated the market so much just before the crash of 1929. It almost seems like there's been a lot of manipulation going on in this present trouble. Can't prove anything, only speculation, but the suspicion is there.

I read it, along with a couple other reports about it. I didn't weep, but I wondered if they were going to use vasoline. Most of my stocks which jumped up yesterday are falling back this morning. I wonder how many accountants suddenly woke up with the thought, "Do you realize how much this is going to cost us?"

Oh well, out of the pan and into the fire, we're going to get burned for sure.

JPM preliminary talks to aquire WM (1 of 3 possible banks)

Gotta feeling all the fallout now is just going to turn in aquisitions.

AMD +7.5% WM+7%....seems many think these companies will have a future (even if it's a subdivision in WM's case).

Go WM, go! I want to see $20 minimum. $30 would be even better. Lets here the auctioneer, do I hear $40? Hey, that's what it sold for last August.

As I said a few pages back that the guy was off the mark when he prediced gold to top out at $900 and we'd hit that before the end of the month. We aren't even to the middle of the month and it hit $900 already.

Cleveland sues banks over supprime mess.
Cleveland sues lenders over subprime - Jan. 11, 2008

City officials hope to recover hundreds of millions of dollars in damages for lost property tax revenue, the cost of demolishing homes left abandoned and the cost of policing neighborhoods devastated by thousands of foreclosures.

Um... who's pointing the finger at who here? Isn't a Cleveland also responsible for letting this happen within city limits? If it really was fraudulent then people could turn around and sue cleveland if they can sue the banks.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like a dumb lawsuit.

Oh yeah, like Cleveland has no responsibility what-so-ever in policing its neighborhoods and fighting crime.

In other news: Clinton to propose $70 billion stimulus: report - Yahoo! News

And just where does Hillary think that $70 billion will come from, a magic fairy? Someone has to pay that money, and it would be every taxpayer in the country, including those who its proposed to help. That's not counting the additional costs for running the inept government agencies which would oversee it all.

Dang it. I held off selling some WM a bit this morning because it was heading up so nicely. Now its dropping for the cellar again. Someday I have to learn to grab the profit when I can adn forget trying to hold out for more. I'll never be good at gambling. Maybe that's why I don't play poker.

Interesting you bring that up about Cleveland but I don't believe there actually is a legal requirement for them to do so. The legal purpose of the police department is actually to enfore the laws as enacted by the municipality. Police are thus not responsible for securing their properties against crime the owners actually are.

They are going after the banks for creating a public nuisance by failing to secure and maintain their properties. My vote is on the City of Cleveland actually being the winners with this plan.

The suit, filed in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, alleges that in pushing sub-prime mortgages in Cleveland, the companies created a public nuisance in violation of state law.
There were over 7,000 foreclosures in Cleveland in 2007 alone. Crime has skyrocketed in areas where boarded up houses are a common site. Many of those homes have been stripped of their aluminum siding and plumbing. Some blocks bear an eerie resemblance to New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward in the months following Hurricane Katrina.

She'll do what every politician does print more money.
Clinton's emergency spending plan would add to the federal budget deficit and not be offset by tax increases or budget cuts, her campaign told the Times.
Talk about a Hillary being a socialist:
When will they ever learn this handout system we have doesn't work now and more handouts isn't going to make it work any better. What a political stunt this is for an election year $55B in free giveaways to her democratic (low-income) base. Time will tell but I'll bet we're just goint to watch this baby go down in flames...

Clinton's plan would provide $30 billion for an emergency housing crisis fund for states to help low-income families unable to make mortgage payments; $25 billion to help low-income families pay heating bills this winter; $10 billion to extend unemployment insurance for people unable to find jobs; and $5 billion for alternative energy programs, the Times said.
And next we hear from? Osama..Errr I mean Obama.

if you still have it, look at the bright side: at least you didn't lose on it today while the market tanked again. Of the 50 tickers I follow, it was second only to AMD today. :-) A rare day, wouldn't you say.
