Yeah, I might have to use three or four of them in the Ultimate build! Nice work, Dean!

Great work as usual Dean![]()
Thanks, Vinod. Anyway, yeah, the drive really blew my expectations away. Hence me messing w/ my SATA controllers and swapping cables and whatnot just to make sure I wasn't crazy.![]()
Great review Dean.Monster drive... I haven't been able to find out(officially) what size platters they're using. Judging by the performance results, i assume it's 4x375GB, as (5)300GB platters wouldn't hit ~ 120MB/s transfer rate...AFAIK.
Nice work Dean.
I'll be picking up 3-4 of these drives for the new server in 1-2 months.

5: Folding Rig 3 - MSI X58M | i7 920 D0 @ 3.5GHz | 6GB OCZ PC3-1600 DDR
Nice work Dean. Have you read anything about the changes made to get the speed up? I haven't but there has to be something out there. (OK, I just looked on Seagate's pages for this drive : Seagate Technology - Barracudaź 7200.11 Hard Drives and http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...&reqPage=Model) You might want to mine some of that into the review, not only performance related but also power usage.

Yeah, I think they are 4x375GB platters. A lot of places have said that (but didn't mention their sources so I'm not sure how legit it is). But, Seagate says "up to four platters" here:
Seagate Technology - Barracudaź 7200.11 Hard Drives
So, that would imply that 4x375 is true.
Awesome. It'll be interesting to see how reliable these drives are. The MTBF is higher than the Samsung F1 (750,000 hours VS 600,000), so I have high hopes.
Yeah... maybe I should update the review with some of that extra info. But, I'm over-worked.
Yep. They did. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (or good news depending on how you look at it).
Yeah. I've been using a 120GB Seagate drive (it's pretty dang old) in my rig, and I didn't realize how crappy it is these days. I ran some tests on it for fun and these newer drives are 100% faster in some tests.
Wow... simply wow. I'm almost ashamed to have 750GB F1's now. Beautiful review Dean.

750GB F1s are slower than the 1TB F1s b/c of their decreased plater density.

Nice work Dean, enjoyable and informative read.
Think, Hold that thought, Complete.
I closed it at first (review bore me to death), but after reading some comments I read your stuff and I was surprised; you made a hard drive look interesting! GJ Dean, and those are some pretty damn good numbers. Any idea why the results in HDTach and the other HD software are different?
