9600GSO No Boot

Okay, I figured out that my motherboard is not the culprit. When I put the 9600GSO in my working file server (Coolmax PSU 2 x +12v @ 17amps) it turns on for a tenth of a second and turns back off. When I use the 8500GT it runs fine.

Is it the vid card or the PSU not having enough juice? I don't have a better PSU to test it with.

If you're not overclocking I don't see why your PSU wouldn't have enough power to give. Sometimes these things just die for no good reason.

I would say that it could be the PSU. You have "two" +12V rails; if you don't distribute the power evenly over both, you can overload "one". I use quotes because there aren't two physical +12V rails in your system, it's one divided into two in certain sections.

I say RMA the card just to make sure it isn't that. Then if it fails again, you know the problem.

Okay, I have an update... after unplugging everything except the CPU and 9600GSO it boots and gives me 3 long beeps, then reboots.

Find out what Gigabyte's motherboard code for "3 long beeps" is. For my old Intel board the card displayed something like "Plug in 6-pin connector into VGA solution" or some such thing.

Yeah, I reseated the card and it boots, now if only I could get it to do that with a hard drive plugged in.

That's a power issue, I'm certain of it.

Sorry, but I don't think there are enough amps on the 12V rail for that card and the rest of your machine.

For just $7.75 more you can get a Corsair 650TX

I just grabbed the 750TX for $83.74AR, but they've now raised the price on it.

I read a review that said the 650W was in any and all ways preferable to the 750W model, wish I could find it; they said it was more stable, quiet, cooler running, and more efficient.

Both PSUs would be good. I'd almost say get the Corsair instead due to the higher wattage rating, just to give yourself some headroom if you ever wanted to upgrade that machine (again).

Strange though; I've had a more power hungry Phenom @ 2.53GHz and a 3850 work and game fine on a 430W CoolerMarter PSU with 12A and 14A on the 12V rails.

Well, I couldn't get it to work on the CoolerMaster, so I hooked up the ThermalTake TR2 430W and that is what actually booted up. I might hook up a single HDD and the DVD Drive to see how it goes. I do know though, that that little PSU probably won't last long running that thing.
