Team Fortress 2 suspected video issue....Please Read and Help
Hello everyone,
I recently tried to play Team Fortress 2 on my new system. However Upon joining a game, after around 1minute or so my screen goes into some crazy distraught image. See picture attached. This happens every time I try to play this game. Any ideas as to how I can fix this from happening? I have posted all over (toms, GT, GS, and Steam) and noone seems to know what to do to fix this.
Note: When the screen goes into this crazy state, I can still hear sound and move around, just not see what the hell is going on.
My system specs are
Intel Quad Core Q6600
Nvidia 8800GTX (latest nvidia drivers)
2GB Ram
Vista home premium 32bit
700watt PSU
This is the only game I'm having trouble running because of this issue. Thanks for any help!

Video card is dying (most likely).
Video driver issue (less likely).
Try different driver revisions.

I'll give that a try. Seems weird because all my other games work perfect, just this one gets crazy with that issue. Hard to understand, I mean the game isn't really demanding as say crysis

Download ATi Tool from here and do the artifact search for 30min~1hour. If it shows artifacts then it's most likely your card if not it's a software issue. Also have an eye on temps. Make sure you never pass 90c and disable any overclock on the card.
Try different driver from nVIDIA site and do not use 17x.xx drivers!

TF2 messes with my card every once in awhile. I rolled back drivers and have yet to see an issue. I get something different though, just everything is wireframe which is an advantage sometimes since I can see where everyone is behind stuff
Make sure to use Driver Cleaner as well.

Well I rolled back my driver to version 163 and the issue still occurs. The artifact test came up clean, could it be that I didn't roll back far enough? If anyone has any other ideas or a link to a driver that may work let me know.

That sounds to me like some textures are being corrupted in memory (and I've actually experienced the same thing when I OC'd my memory too much on a video card before). Strange that it's only showing up in TF2, though.

Try using a beta driver. Since i don't know what is your current OS i can't give you the direct link but here is the page for Beta drivers.
And make sure to use Driver Cleaner Pro after uninstalling your current driver!

Yea, it is pretty wierd because I only have problems with TF2, nothing else. Before rolling back my driver, I was using the latest beta version on the nvidia site. I have also tried omega drivers, but I get the same result. :/

Damn, not to much choices left then...
I would reinstall the game and if that doesn't help, i would go for a reformat and a fresh Windows.
Btw, did you check if there is any patch for that game?

It's a Steam game so you're pretty much forced in to the updates.

I had the same issue with crysis. I just used drivercleaner and changed drivers. Shame that isn't working for you. Considering it's the only game it occurs in, it's pretty likely it's a driver problem.

If your significantly overclocked try raising the pci ex frequency to 106 or higher.
we dont have very much info on your rig other than basic....
motherboard type and bios revision ?
CPU clocks
Ram modules ,frequency and latency timings.
any changes you may have made before this occured.

Well I didn't say much about it mainly because I haven't tampered with any settings (CPU, GPU, etc.) Everything is running at default speeds. CPU is ar 2.4GHz. The ram I'm running is 2GB crucial ballistix 1066 (PC28500). Using a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R mobo. If theres anything I need to list let me know.

Even crossfired 3870's give me troubles from time to time and I have to kick up a few settings to compensate.
I'm still working on the rig for forum wars so water cooling the cards wont be finished for a week or two.
I'm sure that will solve a few issues | |
