Varied Temps

Just wondering if this is normal. I even re-applied the AS5 evenly over the whole IHS. Running my Q6600 this is what I get at idle:

Core0-39C
Core1-36C
Core2-31C
Core3-31C

What monitoring software are you using?

Certainly is, some chips even out a bit more when loaded but that isn't uncommon at all. Sometimes an uneven mount pressure will cause that but Core 0 is hot for a lot of people.

If it makes you feel better - my HTPC's Q9450 core temps are:
C1 - 41c
C2 - 39c
C3 - 51
C4 - 51

I don't think C3 and C4 are actually working correctly. Oh, and this is in a Silverstone HTPC case.

Cool, thanks guys. I wasn't worried at all but just was curious.

Most probably it's all about sensors; they're not very accurate and this often translates in huge differences, I don't think mounting pressure or any physical circumstance justifies differences of +10°C between different cores. Some cores may leak less and produce more heat but still, 10°C is too much to justify that. My 4200+ used to report temps differing by as much as 12°C.

AMD did at least one thing right with their first quad; a single sensor for the four cores, so nobody is worried about weird temps .

My various quad core chips have routinely displayed temperatures with 5-10C deltas across the different cores... I just figured it was the result of the cheeseburger style quad.

Not much about that; you have those dofferences in monolithic dual and quad cores too, both Intel and AMD.
