Heres the site that i would be buying it from, should i get this or wait for the 9450 to become more widely available.
NCIX.com - Buy Intel Xeon X3350 Quad Core Processor LGA775 2.66GHZ Yorkfield 1333FSB 12MB Retail Box - BX80569X3350 In Canada.

That should work - look how many people here run the Xeon 3220 (Q6600 equivelent) on Maximus Formula boards. NCIX hasn't had the greatest track record recently of delivering in a timely manner though.

Yea I no that but its the only place in canada that I trust to actually get it to me, I am in no real hurry to get it. will I have to flash the bios on the board to get it to work, is there anyway to check if the cpu is officially supported by the board.

It isn't listed under cpu support for the board but neither is the x3220 so i am hoping that it will work, i am going to order it next week.
Has anyone seen anything on any other forums about someone using a 3350 with the formula?

Don't know, but the way I see it, it should work.
After all, Meltdown has a 45nm Quad running on his Asus Maximus

FYI... Most mobo manufacturers dont list the xeon counterparts. As theyre basically the same chip.

Possibly. Possibly not.
I run mine at 3.6 but its got a 9x multi. So I'd guess you could.
Also dont put >1.35v through it 24/7

Since you have better ram than I do I would have to say I think 3.4ghz is possible but for that price I would just get a Q6600.

I have been looking at the Q6600 for a long time, isnt the 45nm supposed to run faster and cooler at the same clock speed?
The reason I am asking is because my heatsink isn't the greatest.

I had no hard time getting my X3220 (equivalent to a Q6600) at 3.40 GHz whatsoever. It's 3.6 GHz that's hard to get without proper cooling.

You might need a new BIOS depending on how old the one your board shipped with is. I think the 907 version is the newest official one, although there's a leaked 1004 floating around somewhere as well.

My Board was shipped in December so i am not to sure which bios it is running.
Do you think that this chip is worth the extra $130 over the Q6600?
