long boot

whe i got home this afternoon, i turned my computer on and nothing hppened, the fans came on, the lights came on, but it didnt have the normal gigabyte screen. i opened her up and made shure noting was outa place, and then tried again. still nothing, i left it running, and roughly 5 minuets later it showed the screen, and then showed a option to return the cmos to default, or last known good setting. i choose default and it took forever for it to show the screen again. one way i can discribe whats happning is like if a car just wont turn over. it takes a while for every thing. i dont hear a post, but i havent with this boad ever. what could be causing this? and i used it this morning and it worked fine no problems.

sounds like the mobo or PSU is dying bud, have you run any tests.. memtest etc., re-seated anything?
alternatively it may just need a new battery

Age of things can mean little if it's a poorly made component. One of my roommates had a crap PSU that lasted a year and a half, and the one he replaced it with was crappier and lasted a month, the one he's got now is doing all right though.

I'd go with Tark's idea, checking each component through tests, since you've probably done the reseating things part.

You have not yet to proved that it IS the PC&P.

Only that you MIGHT have a problem with it.

re-seat things and check for any post codes/beep codes.

Yeah PCP&C are arguably the BEST. But, that doesn't mean that they never have a failure or anything. However, as others have pointed out this is just one possibility out of a TON of things that could be going on!

you could try getting a boot that fits. I mean if a 13 or 14 is too long, try an 11, or maybe a 12

Best thing to try is to disconnect/disable as many components as possible. I've had one bad component (a floppy drive and a sound card) cause similar slow downs.

Disconnect all drives and any addon cards and see if the post speed increases. if it does, add one component at a time until the slowness manifests.

As others have suggested, try switching out the powersupply if you have a spare as well.

I suspect a bad hard drive or other drive (DVD,CD, but probably HD).

Try removing the drive and hooking it up to another computer. Backup your data, and then try running some kind of drive utility on it to see if it comes up with bad sectors, etc...

I had a similiar issue earlier this year, it was a great excuse to upgrade to RAID0 320GBx2.

A good test would be even just to disconnect the drive(s) and see if the computer will post more quickly and get to the "Dude, where's your OS" error more quickly.
