    asus p6t informations

hello all, i'm expecting to receive my new parts on monday:

asus p6t deluxe oc palm board
    i7 920
    6 gb ocz platinum 1600 7-7-7-21
    evga gtx 275 ftw
    hdd wd 160 gb velociraptor
    hdd wd black 1 tb
    hdd wd black 500 gb
    optical drive dvd r
    noctua cpu cooling fan
    corsair power supply 850w
    cooler master haf case

    i have some questions here.

1-what is the best bios out for the oc and stability
2-what is the difference btw marvel and intel raid
3-m planing to put the os on the velociraptor hdd, do i still need to make a raid
4-my plan was to put os on velociraptor and make a raid on the 2 black hdd ( 1 tb and 500 gb), in this case what is the best raid configuration for this case, do u prefer miror or performance?
5-in case i'm going to install the os on the velociraptor and make the raid later, do i still need to configure the raid in bios or it will be installed in windows
6-if what i'm looking for is hdd performance, is it possible to put on raid the 160 gb velociraptor and the 500gb black as performance raid? if yes, will it be better performing than one velociraptor?

that's for now, thanks in advance

Most X58 boards still being relatively new, the latest BIOS should give you the best OC potential while being less buggy. If you have the time, try the latest beta ones too.

2-what is the difference btw marvel and intel raid
You just need to know the Intel one is better. I won't go into detail in explaining. The Marvel controller is more for PATA support than for SATA RAID.

3-m planing to put the os on the velociraptor hdd, do i still need to make a raid
You need more than 1 HDD to create a RAID array. Single VelociRaptor for OS+app is decent in speed already.

You won't be able to use the full capacity of the 1TB if you put it into a RAID array with the 500GB. In other word, forget about it.

5-in case i'm going to install the os on the velociraptor and make the raid later, do i still need to configure the raid in bios or it will be installed in windows
You'll loss data on your original single VelociRaptor if you put it in RAID0 with another one. Best is to clean install the OS rather than imaging your current install.

You want a SSD. No matter how many HDDs you put in RAID0, desktop pattern usage performance will still be lower than a good SSD like Intel X25-M.
