8 gb 800mhz ddr2 vs 4 gb 1066mhz ddr2

I'm looking at getting some different ram and was wondering which setup would give better performance on an evga 780i with a Q6600 G0 and 2x evga geforce 9600 gt ssc's and vista home premium 64 bit. i was looking at going with OCZ's SLI ready memory modules.

For things normal home users do, there's no benefit to going with 8 GB of memory. 2GB is sufficient for most tasks and 4GB is sufficient for any current software. For 4GB of memory, you can't very easily beat the value of this G.Skill DDR2-1000 kit for $100.
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Unless you're going for world record benchmarks, Intel Core 2 systems don't benefit appreciably from uber fast expensive RAM.

I saw something about vista getting a boost from 8gigs of ram. Dunno how much, but with how cheap it is now why not go nuts?

Because beer is best served cold so you need to save some money?

I dunno, but hell with it being this cheap as you said, why not go for it, pretty soon ddr3 will be mass produced instead and the value of ddr2 will rise (nehalem will drop a bomb on ram prices again)

*Typing this in class right now*

I have 8gb of ram on Vista Ultimate x64, but I only see a difference coming from 2gb,I never tried 4gb, so I really wouldn't know.

x64 versions will really notice a difference as supposedly it stops the system from fully page filing. I read that once you have more ram than 6gb in the 64 bit environment it removes page filing. I have yet to confirm it...

I just bought the 8gb as I will be upgrading soon to run Age of Conan and running multiple CS3 programs at the same time. Also, I hate seeing anything close to 100% ram usage

right now I have firefox with 4 tabs open, I'm downloading SP1, steam is on, avast is install, and I have 5 sidebar gadgets going. I am using 1.5GB of RAM, lol.

I could see someone who heavily multitasks using maybe up to 4GB, but it would take a lot to user more then that.

It is cool to say that you have 8GB of RAM though

It's not cool - it's hot actually! Filling all 4 slots on most mobos with high performance type memory takes some decent airflow on them to keep them cool.
