    Data recovery for SDHC card

Could someone link me to a good free data recovery program that I could use on my Kingston 4gb SDHC memory card that is corrupted. The data should still be there.

Kingston support directed me to download.com and told me to search for "data recovery." The 1st and most popular result is Virtuallab, but the shareware version will only let you preview. To use it would cost me $40-80 which I really dont want to spend. The pictures arent worth THAT much. Maybe $10.

Once I do recover the pictures, the card should be useable after a format no?
Also, what could have caused this to happen?

I actually have no idea on this.
I'm sure the same kind of software used to recover data from HDD's would work though?

I've never had flash memory go bad on me yet thankfully.

What kind of data recovery programs are you talking about and are any of them free or reasonably priced?

The underlying problem here is if there is physical damage to the chips that store the info.

I have only had one SD card die, and was told the data was not recoverable.

Greg joined Sept 2008, yet has only 1 post, also jamsbrown85 has 1 post, just joined today and his sig mentions photo recovery software? I'd say spam but spam usually not relevant or helpful to the topic. I'd say if you can get a second, trusted opinion on the above software, then by all means its worth a shot.

Honestly I've never needed data recovery. I have an 8GB SDHC here, I got corruption errors in Windows but could still access the files fine, it just wanted to do a format for some reason (PPC and Digi Cam had no problems with it, just the PC)

    Fear not !
Try these two utilities free and very powerfull

    Download Recuva 1.28.424 - FileHippo.com

DiskDigger - free data recovery made easy | DmitryBrant.com

I succeded in recover ''lost'' data even after a complet format.
    The photo recovered in 90 95% ...
However those utilities are not making any miracle....and try to save data quick if a long period of time passes data is very hard to recover..
