    Wooden htpc case

So since I'm bored and have so much time on my hands I decided to make put my time to good use an make a wooden htpc since I've been thinking about it for a while. I was looking at some other wood cases and found this guys work which is amazing Yuugou I have to give him a lot of the credit since I will be using a lot of his ideas for my case. I really liked the joints he used which you can see in that link, so that's what I'm planning to use for mine. The joints are going to be out of a lighter wood not sure which type yet. Then I'll be using some Brazilian redwood for the side panels. I'll also be using the design with the thin strips of wood he used on the side of his case except putting it on the front of mine. Those will also be of a lighter colored wood. Well here's the sketches of the layout so far. I know my drawings aren't that great but please look at it and see if you see any problems with the layout of hardware. Sorry about having the pics cut off, scanner was too small so i had to scan each page twice. The drawings don't show any of the joints or the designs for top/sides, or fans on the sides and back.

    http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/9399/frontlhe.jpg
    http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/8569/frontb.jpg

I will have a fan in the front, one each side, back and maybe top. Idea is to have lots of big fans that can push enough air but be relatively quiet at the same time since it will probably end up being hooked up to a projector to watch movies. Side and top will have the same type of wood as the front design but will be criss-crossing.

If people here show an interest and want me to make a log of everything I could do that. I'm hoping to get complete drawings with the joints and everything else done in a couple days.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

Ever use Google SketchUp? Its super easy and works great and has tons of already correctly sized models like fans/hard drives etc so you can see exactly how things will fit

    Wood FTW!

I tried Google Sketchup but it was driving me crazy. I've got dimensions for everything so i know it will all fit fine. I'm just looking for input on if the layout looks fine and will it get enough airflow.

Wood is so overdone, use Lego's instead.

    In all seriousness, good luck.

Remember, it's not size but how you can use it.

I want to make a Lego case now, but i can't afford that Im fairly tapped out with my current mod.

Good luck with the Wooden mod, I've wanted to try one, but I have no woodworking tools and I suck at woodworking.

We should create a thread to compare woodies, though we might get an influx of gay visitors.

One question about mobo grounding, i'm planning on putting threaded inserts on the bottom board then mobo standoffs screw into that. Is there any kind of grounding issue i will have with that or is it ok?

PSU should provide adequate grounding... AFAIK.

I'm changing the wood i'm doing for the side to 1/4" cherry then put a pretty dark stain on it. The brazilian redwood i was going to use before is as hard as concrete and i only have extremely thin pieces which would be hard to work with. Joints are going to be out of mahogany. I started practicing the joint to make sure i know how to do them fine before i start the real thing.

    Picture time!
So the joints i was going to do was a huge PITA to get it perfectly straight. So i switched joints to this which is easier to make and I think still looks nice. Final joints will have a notch cut in the top of the vertical piece for a pin to hold everything in place. One of the horizontal ends is a little short due to mistake cutting.

    Joint taken apart.

These are the boards I will be using for the joints/ frame for it. All the wood was taken from a old tree at my cabin and was going to be used for a bunk bed but never happened so now its all mine.
