Use Windows 7 Upgrade Edition as a Clean Install

How To: Use Your Windows 7 Upgrade Disk On a Fresh PC - Page 1 | Maximum PC

Nice guide I found. This will be save a bunch of time since you don't have to install a previous OS and then upgrade every time you want to install Windows 7.

Point to note, though: legally, you MUST own a previous version of Windows to use this.

After reading through that article, this one reply got my attention:
Just install a clean install, Dont enter any Key when asked. Then, once you are ready to activate, create a folder called Windows.old on the root of your C: drive, then activate with your key just like normal. I know, it sounds too simple, and that it's too big a loophole for them to have missed, but it's worked for me 4 times now and my machines are on a retail upgrade disc and key.
    Now, if this is true...daaaaaamn!

I believe you are correct about RDP and Home Premium, but I never tried it, so I can't tell you for sure. What I have heard, RDP is not included with Home Premium...but that's why I have Win 7 Pro, also. hehe.

AFAIK, Home Premium never allowed RDP (as in, you couldn't RDP into a Home Premium box). But it does have the RDP software to connect to another computer that does support RDP support.

    Does that make any sense?

Sorry to bring this back, but is it possible that MS is going to fix this in SP1? I don't want all these machines giving validation errors out.

Does Win really know if I have XP/Vista on the HD when I format it before clean installing?
