Apparently preliminary testing did not show any jaw-dropping results. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 can be considered as somewhat of a 're-work' of the GeForce 9800 GX2 into a single core package with faster processing capability and more bandwidth.

We did some power draw tests on the GTX 280 cards in single and SLI mode on a QX9650 + 790i SLI setup. With single GTX 280 card, the system is drawing 147W at idle and 292.2W at peak and the 3DMark Vantage score is P10324. With GTX 280 SLI, the system is drawing 190.1W at idle and 508W at peak. The 3DMark Vantage score is P15813. Stay tuned for our full review in a few days time.

Is there any reason why he called it GT200 when it clearly just says G200 on the IHS? Medium IQ in Crysis, even my card can do that well, need something more taxing.

Probably a typo but I have no idea tbh. Bear in mind this is a prelim review... my hope is a more thorough benchmark suite to come later today.

Well people have been calling this thing GT200 for a while (even wikipedia ), but it certainly isn't labeled that. Oh well, not a life-or-death issue. Even if it is prelim, benching an expected $700 card on medium is stupid.

It is going to struggle at $650 if it is not really any better than a GX2.

Yeah, I'm kinda dissapointed in the GTX280. I think my 9800GTX's will hold me together for awhile.

It's looking more and more like nV should have skipped the 9 series and gone straight to the GTX 280... better "bang"

Now a GX2 @ $450 = $650 GTX 280... assuming the general trend shown in the bungholiomarks holds and ignoring the 25x16 res no one games at.

I think it will be somewhat game dependent. The GTX280 holds a good lead in WIC, if you play that game. On the other hand, 44FPS in that game is just as playable as 59FPS, but the minimums could be quite a bit different when a few nukes go off.

Since it dominated the GX2 in WiC but failed at Crysis still can't judge. Need more and more and more game benchmarks. Btw, who pays $650 for a graphic card to play Crysis at Medium details?

Crysis doesn't look any good on Medium details and IMO the game play is so crap compare to other high-end FPS like Call of Duty 4. So TBH there is no single point in playing Crysis on Medium details.

Crysis looks much worse than Far Cry on medium IMO. Far Cry had a cheesy-ness to it that made the oversaturated colours work well. Crysis with blindingly white sand (as it is on medium) looks plain bad.

Exactly. That's why i said there is no single point in playing Crysis on Medium details. So Why the hell they tested a $650 beast on Medium details?
