Australian Federal Court bends over for recording studios

ISP Ordered To Hand Over Records of Pirate Customers | TorrentFreak

Several studios are currently taking legal action against Australian ISP iiNet. They accuse iiNet of failing to take steps to stop its subscribers from sharing files by disconnecting them from the Internet. Now iiNet has been ordered to hand over the personal details and logs relating to twenty alleged pirates, to anti-piracy group AFACT.

This is "Big Brother" speaking. You will do as you are told to do. You will say what you are told to say. You will think what you are told to think. Do not attempt to undermine or otherwise avoid doing what you are told. Resistance is futile.

Where's Melty for an appropriate comment?

Why does everyone always pick on poor iiNet? Why not Telstra? Optus? Vodaphone / Hutchinson? Could it be that poor iiNet can't really afford the lawyers to fight this?

Of course they can't. They hire a creepy internet junkie and his grandma to do advertisements.

While giving piss-poor quotas for the other 99.99999999% of the internets.

iiNet still has the best ADSL2+ service in the country. The quotas aren't bad when you bundle a land line or VOIP with your Internet service. When you want a decent sized quota they end up much cheaper than Westnet, Internode etc. Telstra and Optus just suck so badly in terms of Internet that it's not even funny.

iiNet is a fairly large, profitable, company. They can surely afford lawyers. Hell, AMD can.

I get 30GB peak, 25GB off-peak for $50/month. I don't think iiNet can manage that (at least not when I last checked)

How do you manage with 55GB/month? I have 100GB/month (60/40) and it's still not enough. FWIW, I pay $100/month for 100GB. I haven't seen any other ISPs that offer more bandwidth than that at ~$100/month with ADSL2+ speeds.

I just checked the Optus website and they'll sell you 30GB quota for $100 a month. That and I have idiots from Telstra calling me at least once a month trying to convince me that $65 for 12GB or $110 for 65GB is good value.

I used to have 10GB, 12GB, switched from Bogpond to TPG with 25GB, 50GB and now 55GB (the latter 3 all for the same price).

A while ago I downloaded Cryostasis as part of a free offer from EVGA. That download alone used up that much quota.
