Verizon iPhone Ads Burns Bridges W/ Apple: DroidDoes

Verizon iPhone Ads Burns Bridges W/ Apple: DroidDoes | PMP Today

And to think we were all pretty stoked about the Apple iPhone finally coming to the biggest and most reliable wireless company in the U.S. Now here comes Verizon with an anti-iPhone ad (”everything iDon’t Droid Does”) that may just mean good-bye to a Verizon iPhone in 2010. It’s not just business when you’re taking a swipe against an Apple product. With the ad, Verizon also launched a possible product tagline or even a fullblown brand name: DroidDoes [site], which means of course that Verizon will put a lot of support behind the Google Android in future phone models.

So will Verizon go head to head with the Apple iPhone. Will iPhone continue its exclusivity with AT&T? Is Verizon insane making war with Steve Jobs?

Pretty stupid ad IMO. But, if people still buy Macs with those stupid Mac vs PC ads I'm sure this won't hurt the Droid too much.

This is debatable. Faster hardware is a +1 though.

I will be honest, it is the only major smartphone OS I haven't used. Symbian doesn't count

I can't say I like it on the G1 (which Christy has) but TMobile blows and the phone blows even harder so it is hard to make a judgment on Droid. I will say that Droid needs exchange support to be viable. Christy had to download some crazy app from the 1.5 update (I think it was from there) and the exchange support is weak.

Besides that... I have no opinion since I haven't used it enough.

You can get custom ROMs from XDA-Developers that really optimize Android on the G1. I'm running a ROM called xROM... it has a slick black theme with Exchange support, multi-touch browser, WPA-Enterprise, a camcorder... basically the works. It really makes it a whole lot better - maybe not as smooth as the iPhone, but miles ahead of anything from Microsoft or Blackberry.

But the fact remains that every Android device on the market uses a 528MHz processor. I heard Motorola is working on one with a 1GHz CPU that comes with a high-res 3.7" screen and Android 1.6. Give XDA a couple weeks with that phone and they will get the iPhone 3GS to cry.

    EDIT:
    Here's a picture of said 1GHz phone

And it's coming to Verizon's network

If it were my phone maybe I would hack it but it's Christy's. XDA does a good job of cleaning up the mess left by OEMs that is for sure.

The 528MHz processor isn't as important as the date on the processor. The Palm Pre and 3Gs only run 600MHz procs but they are much newer procs and are more efficient.

Having said that, Motorola has a chance here. They haven't done anything great in the cellphone market since the Razer... and that was 4 years ago? Motoblur seems too busy but maybe Droid 1.6/2.0 will work for them. I certainly hope so. Competition keeps everyone in check.

I agree with him, and I have a Fuze. They need OLED's badly. I wish you could get WinMo on a Tegra platform by HTC.

And as for VZN, is their board run by pillocks? This is sheer lunacy.

I actually bought one of those external battery packs for the iPhone, which made it about as large as most of the sliders. It feels heavy, and huge in my pocket. ("Is that an iPhone iwth a battery pack in your pocket or are you just happy to see me") huge.......

Im sure the sliders would be the same... But hell, you can iDont your battery out if you want....

I have setup exchange on iPhones and typing on the things is hard for me. My phones have always had a physical keyboard though, so I may just need to get used to it. But from an initial impression, I'll stick to physical keyboard.

My brother has the MyTouch and I LOVE the OS. The hardware isn't quite up-to-snuff of course, but when it catches up to iPhone/Pre I think Android will rule them all.

Eh, I dont like how iPhone keyboard takes up half the screen, but then again, there is nothing else better out right now. (FOR WHAT I DO)

Monitoring servers, logging into servers, managing servers.... etc etc iPhone is like having a laptop in your pocket. its so smooth too. no need for a damn pencil...

That's basically how I feel about it as well. For my uses, the iPhone slays all others at the moment.
