Australian MAFIAA loses lawsuit against ISP

Australian ISP iiNet was today announced as the victor in its long-running defence against a lawsuit by major film and TV studios represented by the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT).

    ...

The studios first dragged iiNet into the Federal Court back in November 2008, arguing that the ISP infinged copyright by failing to take reasonable steps — including enforcing its own terms and conditions — to prevent customers copying films and TV shows over its network.

The judge ordered the studios to pay the court costs.
    Pwned!

Outside court, Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft executive director Neil Gane said he was disappointed with the decision.
He said the case was lodged to try to protect the livelihoods of the thousands of Australians who work in the television and film industries.
Mr Gane said he was confident that the Federal Government would now review the laws surrounding copyright infringement.
So AFACT will now turn to the government for help... It's likely that they will appeal this court decision anyway, so it's really not over yet.

The ISP's barrister said that in one week alone iiNet received more than 3,000 pages of allegations of copyright violations by iiNet customers. "If all the notices iiNet received from film studios over a five-month period were printed it would take 180 large folders and more than 12 trolleys to bring them into the court," Richard Cobden said.
"No-one can seriously be expected to respond to all these."

    ...disappointed with the decision
Why does every loser of a court case say that in a formal statement? It's so farking plain and boring! It makes one sound like a p*ssy.

    Can't they say something like:
...this is not over yet, we will be back!

    yea
Avoid making any important decisions this week. And, come to think of it, next week as well. In fact, assume this is always the case unless the stars tell you otherwise. - Taurus
