$$....45nm Quads not so cheap too soon

Seems to be more that a rumor, for those that ignore the "rumors".

Intel to delay launch of three 45nm quad-core CPUs on poor AMD performance

You have to be freaking kidding me. I've been waiting for the January launch for this long already! I have the money sitting here waiting for the release so I can order one. I guess I'm a small minority, but this is money Intel isn't getting if they delay the launch.

If this is true, it's extra-aggravating because we're witnessing Intel not just keep the clock speeds lower than they need to, but they're delaying product shipments as well because of the lackluster competition? I'd been putting off ordering a new video card, too, since the video card alone isn't enough to give me free shipping. I'm not waiting until March to replace my ever-more-flaky graphics.

Who cares about your Q9450, what will this mean about Nehalem? Either delayed release or release only to very high end parts at first are my guesses.

It will at least make my QX9650 reign supreme longer.

    Someone has too much money

    QX9650 at newegg.com

But I take it you're smart enough to look else where before putting down $1200 for a CPU at the egg

*thinks Eurasianman needs to recheck prices* - $1150 or $1300 at the Egg.

I would never pay 4 digits for a CPU.

What if it was $999.99 + Free S/H?

And I was doing a "rough" estimate

No not for 999.99 either. A few days ago somebody forgot to tell NCIX the correct exchange rate apparently.

Too funny, Guess I was wrong and Intel isn't going to try to bury AMD before they end up paying out on the lawsuit next year. Curious why Intel is going to to let AMD catch up and then pay them big $$$ when they lose the suit though unless maybe Paul is having a Hector moment and thinks he is going to win?

I guess Intel would rather pay AMD to keep them around than end up in antitrust court... especially in the EU given the M$ precedent.

It's good news for profits at both AMD and Intel. All the moves that reduce the price war mean more revenue for both, since plenty of cheap chips are already available and attracting buyers at the low end already.

It doesn't pay Intel to provide too many choices that compete with current profitable niches too quickly.

    Damn QX Whore...

I wasn't going to jump on Nehalem right away... rather let DDR3 drop then jump in early 09.

The most I've ever paid for a CPU is the $235 AUD I paid for my E6300. At the time, that was the cheapest Core 2 Duo.

I still think Intel should release at least the one model down from the QX. I might consider a $500 chip this time around, but not the $1000 one. At this point I'm wondering if it's worth continuing to wait for just get a Q6600 now. Otherwise I could get an AM2+ board and a Barcelona... lol, no seriously I wish there was some competition so I could express my annoyance with Intel by going with someone else. Barcy just isn't on the table for me and everything else AMD would be a downgrade from what I have now.
