    Asus Rampage Formula Pic

TechConnect Magazine - Asus X48 Republic of Gamers board pictured

    Quote:

" Delayed until February or not, the Intel X48 chipset will be the pride and joy of the Penryn builder and since it is "high-end" it will get to be featured in a couple of motherboards built by the Republic of Gamers' team. With the X48 pretty much done and very similar to the X38 Asus' new boards are practically finished and you can see one of them below.

The new X48 boards will be named Rampage Formula (DDR2 memory and picture) and Rampage Extreme (DDR3 and no pics) and will be released next year, most likely in February so as to be ready for the new 3.2GHz, 1600 MHz FSB QX9770 CPU. Until then, contemplate the Rampage Formula and try to spot the few differences between it and the Maximus Formula."

    ---------------

I don't know the look of the Maximus very well but it's easy to see that the Rampage doesn't have NB water. I bet the Extreme does, like the Max Ext. Overall, the layout looks similar but I'm going by memory as I'm too lazy to look it up now.

Only the Special Edition of the Maximus Formula (which seems to have vanished from etailers) has the NB water, the normal Maximus Formula does not. Without studying them side by side and comparing each component it looks just like Maximus Formula to me. Certainly all the main pieces like the VRM, NB,SB, RAM slots, PCIe slots, etc. looks the same. In case anybody wants to study them in detail, here's a side by side pic of the Maximus and Rampage Formula boards.

Just another way for Intel to rake in more money off of unintelligent people who base performance of a product by the number in the name of the product?

Usually the most change they'll have if on same PCB are the PLL chip and/or VRM controller. Either for cost saving or better overclocking.

ASUS may not be that stupid to endorse one stupid band

may be nvidia will get a new gfx card with a name something like "9800 Maiden Sucks GTX" ? and that card will suck as bad as Iron Maiden thats when you will make your switch to ATI

I hope there isn't a crappy *** premium for the x48 but that is just wishful thinking in all likelihood.

Then there is egg price gouging which has gotten bad as of late.

Hmmm... I was just googling "Asus Rampage" and this hit on p1. I'm ready for them to release the SE version of this. Now would be good.

Those boards must be pretty heavy with all that extra metal. Next we'll be having tower heatsinks stock on the NB - with heatpipes!

I demand more slots for RAM and until the MB manufactures bow to my demands I refuse to purchase MotherBoards from them.

Oh, and I also want a Neon Yellow and Black PCB so it looks fast.

And lots of blue led flashy doo dats and whizmos so it looks complicated like the USS Enterprise.

And the long snakey cooling thingy so it looks important.

Then I will most certainly grace the MB company with purchasing the lowest costing MB they sell that has more than 4 slots for RAM.

And a picture of a monster or half nude chick with a sword on the box.
